Ericka truly feels newborns are the most rewarding subject to photograph. Her passion shows through the way she comforts, soothes and poses them. At all times, safety is her #1 priority. Many clients leave thanking her for taking the time and upmost care with their baby. Newborns stay little and new for such a short time. Ericka loves to capture all of the adorable details of your newborn before they begin to change. With her unique and artistic mindset, she is able to capture the beauty of newborn babies.
When Should I Schedule My Newborn Session?
Booking early is recommended. The best time to photograph your baby is between 6-10 days old. This is how we're able to capture the sleepy, curled up pictures we all love and adore. Therefore, she suggests scheduling your newborn photography session a month prior to your due date. Ericka's schedule typically is booked out 3-4 weeks. However, life happens and thinks can get hectic. So, we always make room for newborns on the schedule. Don't panic if your little one is older than the recommended time frame. We have photographed newborn babies up to 4 weeks old and still have captured beautiful portraits.
How Long Will My Session Last?
We make sure there is plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes, and breaks for mommy and baby. So, typically your newborn session will take between 1 ½ and 3 hours. Since your baby's safety is very important to us, we always have an assistant. It allows parents to be able to relax and enjoy this special time in your lives. Ericka cannot wait to meet your little bundle of joy!
What Should My Baby Wear?
Newborn babies photograph beautifully with no clothes at all. Ericka does this in the most discreet way possible. Also, newborns love to be swaddled in wraps and enjoy wearing our soft knit clothing. The studio has a supply of hair ties, hats and wraps that coordinate well with our props and blankets that Ericka will use to stylize your session. This method enables us to create unique and timeless newborn portraits for every client. Ericka loves to incorporate personal items to make your images more meaningful to you. So, please feel free to bring in any hats or props that you would like your baby photographed in.
How Should I Prepare For My Newborn Session?
We recommend you to bring baby in well rested and plan to feed once you arrive at the studio. Newborn babies photograph best when they are sleepy and have a full tummy. Before you start feeding, we ask that you undress baby and wrap them in a cozy blanket. That way once they are done feeding, we don't have to disturb them again by undressing them. Please do not be too concerned about scheduled feedings during your session. Sometimes babies will get fussy and feeding them a little more comforts them and allows for a smooth session.
Can I Be Photographed With my Baby?
Yes, of course! Ericka actually recommends being photographed with your new little one. This is such a special time in your lives. There is no greater image than a daddy and mommy holding and adoring their new baby. The first days are so important and we can't wait to capture yours!
